Meaning of Roleplay Terms
Post Cutting
: posting in the middle of someone else’s post.
Ex.
Mannequinn: The canine would continue creating a series of decor, placing each finished object neatly to the left side of an ash-gray boulder. A thud would sound behind the Sachem, causing him to then turn around quickly. Mannequinn would then let out a >
Ruzabel: The Prime would cast her dull orbits around the domain, baring her pearly whites towards any canine whom dared to stare in her direction too long. The sky was mostly clear, yet a bit of fog still fly low through the dark forest.
See the fault there? Ruzabel missed the > at the end of Mannequinn’s post, which means that he was continuing to post. If you cut someone off like this while they are still posting, it’s considered a post cut. Post cuts usually are accidents, but please try to avoid it!
Auto Hitting
: when you hit someone without using ‘attempt to’ vocabulary.
Ex.
Ruzabel: The Prime would growl, all teeth baring violently. Within an instant the damsel would kick up from her hind end and bounce forward into action, quickly pouncing up with all four limbs, then latching onto Adiemus’ cheek, where he would then soon enough rip off some flesh from the wolves coat.
This is the wrong way to do so. If you try and auto hit someone, these attacks will never land.
Ruzabel: The Prime would growl, all teeth baring violently. Within an instant the damsel would kick up from her hind end and bounce forward into action, quickly pouncing up with all four limbs. Ruzabel would attempt to latch onto Adiemus’ cheek. If this attack landed, Ruzabel's plan was to try and tear some flesh off of the wolf's visage. If that attempt failed, soon enough she would back off and prepare herself for an attack from her opponent.
This is the right way to do so. Attempting to land an attack. One of three attempts will land eventually.
What are the basic types of roleplaying?
Well, in Dakloin we accept two types of roleplaying. We accept semi-literate and literate. For the purpose of this guide, I will go over all three. Please keep in mind that there are not just three types of roleplaying, but these are the three major groupings.
So what are the major roleplaying groups?
The three groups are script, semi-literate, and literate.
Script Style Roleplay
Defined as "script," this style is characterized by the utilization of asterisks [*] and hyphens [-] and lack of quoted dialogue ["blah blah blah"], although quotes may sometimes be used in certain types of script. There is no one 'perfect' way to script-style roleplay. Below will be examples of what I will call "short script" and "long script."
ex. *lays down and sighs* I'm bored.
ex. *Mannequinn laid down, a sigh escaping him as he looked around the area he resided in; taking note of the lack of stimulation here* "I'm bored."
While the second example is coming close to being semi-literate, it is still categorized as script due to the use of asterisks, and it is lacking in detail.
Semi-Literate Style Roleplay
Semi-literate roleplaying is a step up from script style, yet not quite Literate style roleplaying. This style is characterized as using detailed writing, with use of quotes for dialogue. There are no asterisks or hyphens in this type of roleplay, and this style is the most common type of roleplaying found across Feral Heart.
ex. Today had been a busy one. Finally taking time to relax and diffuse, the monochromatic grey male lowered his body to the ground, relishing in the cool breeze that was blowing through the area. The sound of rustling grass, and the chirping of birds and crickets alike was omnidirectional, creating the cacophony that was so often heard here. Quinn's heterochromic orbs of silver and purple scanned his habitat, finding nothing of interest. As if on cue, a sigh escaped his maw. "There's nothin' interestin' here. Strange, innit?"
While this was still a shorter post, it was still enough to be pleasant to read, and contained more detail for other roleplayers to play off of.
Literate Style Roleplay
Literate style roleplaying checks all of the boxes that Semi-Literate style does. The main difference in these posts is the length. These posts generally include much more detail, and often use more advanced vocabulary.
ex. In the low light of twilight, a slow and gentle breeze rolled across the place they called Eastern Pass. The air had started to cool, and there was a slight nip to the breeze as it played through the male's fur. Climbing up onto the rock that had, over time, become known to be the territory claimed by the one-and-only wolf they called by the name of Quinn, the brute found his space and settled in, lowering his frame to the cool red stone. Kicking his rear legs out from under him, Mannequinn relived the events of the day, analyzing them for any information he could use. Rarely, a stray thought would run through his mind before being quickly dismissed in favor of his objectives.
As his thoughts crowded the sharp mind he was proud to call his own, Quinn was vaguely aware of the omni-present cacophony that the night always seemed to bring with it. Birds and bugs alike created a racket as everything and everyone in the pass settled in for the night. Already, most of his packmates were tucked away from the moonlight, and they would remain so until the first shreds of light reappeared from the morning sun. Taking note that even the more rambunctious ones, yes even Zdenka, were asleep for the night; the greyscale male allowed himself to truly relax. Optics scanned the campsite that the Dakloin pack called home, searching for something to entertain the masculine. This was going to be another long, sleepless night.
